On July 09, 2008 ACE will host a “close-out” luncheon at PHMC. During this luncheon we will review the progress ACE has made over the last 3 years. We will answer any lingering questions you may have and most importantly give you information concerning the resources that will be available when ACE is finished. Stay tuned……

Handy Tips for Collecting In-House Data
Several ACE CBOs have expressed interest in collecting in-house data. ACE turned to PHMC’s Vice President of Research and Evaluation, Lynne Kotranski, Ph. D., and asked her to share some of her knowledge and insight. Here’s what she had to offer: There are many ways to collect in-house data. One widely used method is to conduct pre/post tests among program participants. This is done to establish a level of participants’ knowledge, attitudes, skills or behavior before beginning a program or activity and to document changes in attitudes, skills or behavior between the beginning and the end of a program or activity.

Another method is to conduct participant surveys. This method provides an opportunity for consumers of a program or service to give feedback and it may be the only feasible way to measure outcomes.

No matter which method you use, creating an instrument is difficult and time-consuming so it is useful to look for existing surveys (or questions) to meet your needs. In addition, when collecting in-house data you will need to consider the following: question content and wording, the form of the response, the question order and the layout and format.

For more information about collecting in-house data, come to the April 16th workshop or contact Tonya Clemon.
